Thou Shalt Not Covet

The tenth commandment says, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.” Anything that does not belong to us we are counseled by God to not covet it. This also means not upgrading, all the time, to the latest technology or vehicle and having our eyes solely pointed towards God. When He is our focus, we won’t have eyes for other women or things we don’t need. For the Holy Spirit will help us be content with the things we have. Jesus taught, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” When we seek after God and His kingdom we are more blessed than we could ever imagine. We have no need for covetousness for we are fulfilled in what we have. God has given us so much and we have so much to be grateful for. Lastly, this commandment should not be taken lightly. For it is taught that covetous people will not enter heaven. Paul declared, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” If you are breaking this law, I pray that you repent. Come to God for deliverance. He can change the way you think and live. He will make you a new creation if you ask Him in your heart.

To yearn for things we don’t possess is against God’s will. When these thoughts are active in our minds we tend to make bad decisions. Though we don’t have the money to buy something we do it anyways no matter if it affects our family financially. Our self-fulfillments become more important than the lives of our family members and the food on our tables. We become selfish and inconsiderate of other’s needs. This kind of lifestyle grieves the Holy Spirit. For we are seeking our own self desires over God’s will. Covetousness is a grievous sin in the eyes of God Almighty. He doesn’t take it lightly for we are essentially choosing our own wants and desires over His and other people. To covet is not loving but despising our neighbor. We aren’t loving God for we get our fulfillment in other places. God knows our hearts and if they are filthy we will one day have our just punishment after death. However, He died on the cross to make a way that everyone living in sin can be restored to fullness of life. They don’t have to live in shame and guilt any longer. They don’t have to keep seeking after things that never last. If people give their lives to Jesus, He will have mercy on their souls. They will be forgiven through His amazing grace. Paul taught, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” Jesus has the power to free us from sin. Trust in Him and you will find everlasting joy. His peace never ends. Thank You Lord for coming into my life. Your love is fulfilling. I no longer need other things in life to be happy. Your love brings me so much happiness and joy. I have never received more blessings then the times I follow You. I love You.
