Halloween

Before we get into this message, let us read a little about the history of Halloween. I will quote from a portion of an article from bibleinfo.com….

“Another tradition is the druidic belief that during the night of November 1, demons, witches, and evil spirits freely roamed the earth with joy to greet the arrival of “their season” – the long nights and early dark of the winter months. The demons had their fun with poor mortals that night, frightening, harming, and even playing all kinds of mean tricks on them. The only way, it seemed, for scared humans to escape the persecution of the demons was to offer them things they liked, especially fancy foods and sweets. Or, in order to escape the fury of these horrible creatures, a human could disguise himself as one of them and join in their roaming. In this way they would recognize the human as a demon or witch and the human would not be bothered that night.”

As we look into Halloween and its roots, we find out that demons were involved from the beginning. This is not just some holiday but one where Satan is greatly involved. And this in itself should make all Christians want to stay clear from it. To think that demons are playing fun with humans on that day is very demonic in itself. And then for us to participate in it, while disguising ourselves as one of them is so wrong. I am sorry to say that being involved with such a holiday is also inviting demons into your lives. This is exactly what Paul would said, when he said, 2“ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.” It should be clear from scripture that as followers of Christ, we are not partake in what is evil. Especially things that are demonic in nature, we should run from such things. Sure, a simple fairy costume may seem quite innocent. However, it is no longer innocent when the same person begins to participate in events like trick or treating, decorating houses or pumpkins, visiting haunted houses or going to parties. Each one of these things allows Satan full control over one’s life, even if it is for one day. We must always be on our heels and not allow even one day to take us down. As Paul said, 2“let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” Always have your eyes open for Christ, that you may not fall.

We’ve learned that participating in a holiday that has a demonic background is wrong. This is like playing with fire. The light of Christ cannot be with us if we are dabbling with things that are dark in nature. Think about this day and what it brings. Halloween is all about making things look haunted and spooky. Therefore, people try to play the part by decorating their houses with ghosts and goblins. While others wear costumes that look Satanic in nature. Even the music that is played is eerie and demonic. The haunted houses are even worse, while they often have zombies, dead corpses, people being sawed apart and such. You tell me if this day is for God now? For certain it is not. This day is Satan’s domain. He rules this day and unfortunately, many Christians don’t even realize it when they allow their kids to participate. People’s eyes are blinded when they take part in wickedness. As I pointed out above, we are not to be partakers with the things of the devil. As Paul said, 2“all things edify not,” so stay away from the things that can only harm us. To conclude, the Holy Spirit will lead a person to know that Halloween is evil. And once this happens, I pray that you take heed to this warning and no longer participate in it. Remember what Isaiah said, when he said, 1“woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, please come and send the Holy Spirit down to pierce the hearts of people. May they come to a realization that participating in darkness is evil. Surely, we cannot abide in Your light, if darkness rules our life. There are so many dark things in this world and it is taking Christians down with it. My heart sinks to think that people I know and love are allowing themselves to be led by Satan and not You, oh Lord. People may even discount the Halloween holiday and say that there is no harm or foul in participating. But those are all lies and Satan is control of them all. Help us Lord and cause people to escape the temptations of the devil. These things are evil and vile in nature and we need your help. Even if it appears evil, I pray that Christians will finally stand up to it and no longer be partakers. What may seem harmful to the soul is harmful indeed. So God, I pray that people will come to a realization of what is evil in this world and turn from it this day. Our bodies are your temple and therefore, cast out all the darkness and usher in your light. You are faithful to Your promises and I trust in You, Lord. My hope is in my Savior. I love You. Amen.
