Things That Offend Us

When we begin to walk in God’s will, this is when our desires for certain things are changed. Where we used to hang out with certain friends, we no longer do so because of their bad influences. We may not like the types of places they go to at night, like bars and strip clubs. This environment offends us and unfortunately, we have to tell these friends the truth and even lose some of them in the meantime. Some of the people we are around may be into gaming, movies and TV Shows, that are vulgar in their language, are violent, or have sexual scenes in them. It is important to tell them how we stand on such things and no longer be involved with these activities. Even holidays such as Halloween, Christmas and Easter, can be offensive to God in certain ways. Halloween is all about death, witches and haunted houses and therefore, we should not participate. Christmas, has many events for Santa Clause and TV Shows and movies alike. It is important to cut these things out of our lives as well and focus on Jesus instead. With Easter, it is similar. Don’t get involved with the Easter bunny in any way but focus on Jesus’s death on the cross and resurrection. Being a Christian may not seem easy for some but it is worth it. We no longer live for the world but for God. As we learn different things, we obey.

Being a Christian, so many things now offend me and the Spirit. This includes anything that even resembles pornography, which includes any person that is immodest, homosexuality, abortion, any games with killing in it, drinking, smoking, drugs, Halloween, Santa, and the Easter bunny. As the Spirit gets offended by such things, I stay far away. Instead, I focus on Jesus and He strengthens me. I am happy to preach against such things but never participate. If you say you are a Christian and worldly things do not offend you then think about your life and where you stand with God. The Holy Spirit may not be with you if worldly things do not aggravate you in any way. We know that every believer that walks in the Spirit will learn what God likes and hates. Yes, God does like certain things and also hates other things. You will know what these things are via three different ways. First, by reading the Bible. 1For God’s Word is a lamp unto our feet. Second, via prayer and gaining the direction from God, therein. Third, via our walk with Christ. It is during our day, that God will teach us things. In each instance, it is up to us to have an open heart to God and be teachable. If we are closed off, of course, nothing will change in our lives. But if we are humble, then God will show us many things and direct us to walk in His will.

So what are you going to do with your life? Are you going to continue in your sins or walk in the light of Christ? Time is short, don’t waste your day and the time you have left on this earth. Allow the Lord to break you free of all your addictions and bad habits. Even your secret sins, give it is all to God. Pornography will tear you apart until you are a slave to sin. This must be reconciled with God, in order for you to be released from it. I mentioned porn because I was addicted for years and only God could tear it out of my wicked heart. I am free because of the blood of Jesus. It now offends me, as do many other things. You may not see it this way but when you repent of your sins and come fully to the alter of Jesus Christ, your desires will also be changed. And don’t think that you are unable to live differently. Take everything that you think you’ve done before, to help your circumstances, and throw it all at the foot of the cross. Stop making it about what you have done but what Jesus can do now in your life. Come unto Jesus and tell Him that you need Him today. Say, “Lord, I believe in You. I know that I am a sinner and am sorry for my sins. Please forgive me. I know that my life has been unpleasing to You but I am willing to turn from these things today. Free me from my guilt and cleanse me, oh Lord of all my sins. Wash me in Your blood. I give You my life. Have Your way in me. Amen.”

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will begin to work in the lives of every person that says that they are Christian. May that actually mean something to them, that they may desire to live out their faith. Instill in them new desires, as their hearts are turned to You. May their addictions and old habits be broken, that You may teach them of Your ways. May they understand how dark this world is and how important it is to stay far away from certain things. We all need Your guidance and direction and welcome the Spirit. Without Your presence in our lives there would be so much darkness therein. I pray that You may move within us and show us what is right and what is wrong. May the things we like, be what You like. Break us free from any bad influences and help us walk with people of the same faith. May we be open to the things that You hate, that as You are offended by such things, that we will be too. I know that Your ways are righteous and therefore, I am ready to remove myself from every evil way. Have Your way in my life Lord. You are my God and I believe in You. I love You. Amen.
