Follow Jesus And Not Prophets

There was a time when God used the prophets of old as His mouthpiece, in order to speak to the people. Moses, Daniel and Elijah were just a few of these men that God used. This was God’s purpose for instructing the people for centuries, up until the time of Jesus. When He came into the world, all this was changed. Even John said that his only purpose was to 1“prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” (Matthew 3:3) However, once Jesus started His ministry, John said, 3“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30) And so it was that after John served his purpose, in order to call people to repentance and baptize them in the faith of God, God no longer had a need for him and other prophets to speak to the people through Him. Because Jesus was on the scene now, who is our Messiah and Lord, the heavens were opened and He became our mouthpiece, not men any longer. This is important to know since there are churches now-a-days, like the Mormon church, who say that they have prophets and follow them now, which is their mouthpiece for God unto the people. This, however, goes against what Jesus became for us and He also spoke on this as well. In referring to this topic and John the Baptist he said, 2“the law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.” (Luke 16:16) So what do we have now, after John ended his ministry? Well, we have Jesus to help us and the kingdom of God being preached among all nations. So who is leading all of this? It is our Lord, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the mediator between the Father and all mankind. This was taught by Paul, unto timothy and the church. It is recorded, 4“for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:5,6)

How wonderful it is that the heavens have been opened up to us because of Christ, our Lord. Since Jesus is our mediator to the Father we can come to Him specifically in prayer, and no longer have to go through a man any longer for answers. Sure, after He left and went up into heaven, it might seem like we needed prophets to follow, like the Mormon Church teaches, but He did not leave us alone in this world. For the Holy Spirit was poured out upon His disciples and then His people also, that they might continue to know Him and stay on the right path. In doing this, people began to obtain different gifts of the Spirit; which included prophesy, tongues and other things. However, this was now a gift to multiple individuals in the faith and not one person was a mouthpiece to God for the people at hand. This is because Jesus can reach people individually and collectivity by Himself through multiple individuals. He doesn’t need the Father to speak to a specific prophet to lead the people any longer, for He is the one giving us the answers we need in life. So please understand that 5“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews 1:1,2) Jesus is the Lord, our God, and we should be seeking Him for answers in life, not prophets or other people. We do this by searching the scriptures and reading the Bible daily and through praying often. Sure, people can appear good on the outside and in what they may say, but on the inside they could be leading you and others astray. This is why you must test every person with what the Bible says. And if they are teaching anything additional to it or contrary to it, then their gig is up and we shouldn’t pay any more attention to what they say. God bless you!

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people that desire to follow You will also trust in Your Words in the Bible. May they search the scriptures daily, that when they hear something new they can know if it is true or false. Your words are our map in this life, and help us stay focused on what is true and faithful. It is our own desires and wishes that lead us to think differently than what You have spoken to us in scripture. When we get caught up following a specific person or teacher, this truly can does a negative work in our lives. Because our time and attention is now given over to seeing what they are up to and teaching on a regular basis, your teaching become less important. Over time they may have lost all its value. Even false prophets can come into the scene and deceive millions of people, because people are more comfortable in what they can believe in, then what You have said in the Bible. This is deadly in every way, since malicious people are leading people down the path of destruction and people aren’t even realizing it until it is too late. Lord, if people could be more diligently seeking You, then this would never happen. So come into these people’s lives and break them down a level, that their pride may fail them. Come and teach them Your ways, that the darkness may leave them and Your light may enter in. Then, will they start reading the Bible like a child and absorb everything You have to teach them. Thank You God for leading me out of church that was not for You, but Satan. Mormonism had a stronghold upon my life, but You broke those chains. Thank You Lord. I pray that many more people in that religion will also be set free. I love You Lord. I believe in everything the Bible has to say and teach me. I trust in You. Amen.

3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
4 And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

2Luke 16:1-17 (KJV)
1 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.
3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
5 So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.
8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?
13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

41 Timothy 2 (KJV)
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

5Hebrews 1 (KJV)
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
