David’s Affair With Bathsheba

When it comes to people doing stupid things and then getting caught in their sins with God, David was among them. Because of the lust in his heart towards women, he had multiple wives and concubines. Therefore, he was not as close to God spiritually as he should have been. Therefore, his flesh took action more so than his desires for God, and this continued until he finally changed his life for good. In 2 Samuel, chapter 11, we learn about an encounter he had with Bathsheba that really rubbed him wrong with God. This was that story, 1“and it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.” (2 Samuel 11:2-4) Oh wow, how awful this was, but really it is nothing worse than what many people do today when they look at pornography, have illicit sex, or are in affairs with other people’s wives. However, this story gets even worse. David found out that Bathsheba was pregnant and did not want her husband Uriah to find out, so he sent him out in the heat of war, even the front line, so he would be killed. Then, later he took her in after she was in tears and made her his wife. It is recorded that 1“when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.” (2 Samuel 11:27)

People do crazy things when they are led by their own lust and not by God, as you saw from David’s life. Such things can be looking at porn, committing fornication, which is sex outside of marriage, committing adultery with someone else’s spouse, engaging in homosexual behavior, and even murder. You see, when people are not walking in the Holy Spirit, their flesh is ruling their decisions and not God. That is why the things I mentioned above are often committed, even murder. And the sad thing is, that people who commit such things will not inherit the kingdom of God, as Paul taught, unless they repent and allow Jesus to change their lives. There must be a renewing of their mind and soul before the Lord will even think about letting these types of people into heaven. As Paul said, 2“and such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:11) Don’t ever think that God is ok with your life if you are in sexual sin right now. As was David, God is very displeased with your life also, and his wrath is upon you. It would be wise then to confess your sins openly to Jesus, that His blood may cover you. Now listen to what Paul said, 2“flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20) So come and give your life to Jesus, starting today. Don’t delay the day of your repentance. Remember that only Jesus can save your soul from going to hell.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray for people that are currently living sexual sin and have not repented as of yet. Still they think that they are fine with You, since they say they believe, but really, they are deceiving themselves. What they are doing, Lord, is wasting their lives, while finding pleasure in sin, where they should be finding pleasure doing Your will. What we have are people that are asleep and have faith that is dead. They may not realize it, but You can see everything. Really, our lives are an open book to You, oh God. We can’t hide in the bathroom and look at porn and still think we are Ok in Your sight. This is so wrong. Therefore, wake people up to repentance. Help them understand the gravity of their situation before it is too late. I do not wish to see people that go to church be cast in the lake of fire, because of their sins that were never taken care of. So I ask that any sin that is in my life and others that say You are their Lord, will be removed once and for all. I don’t wish to have the Holy Spirit grieved any longer, and I pray that others will also feel the same way. So help us know what is wrong with our current lifestyle, that we may be rebuked, and run to You for forgiveness. Truly, we can’t live our lives on sinking sand and think that we are going to heaven when we die, but only if we build our lives upon the rock of Jesus. Then, can we find the straight and narrow gate, which leads to heaven. Lord, I am grateful for Your written instructions on how we ought to live a holy life, and I pray that You will continue to mold me and shape me into the person I ought to be. I also pray that many more people will be called Your sons and daughters, before their life is up. I love You, Lord. Amen.

1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.
9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.
10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?
11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
12 And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.
13 And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.
17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
19 And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,
20 And if so be that the king’s wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
22 So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.
23 And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.
24 And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king’s servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
25 Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.
26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.
27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.

1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.

13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
