God Gave Charge To Solomon To Build His Temple

In 1 Chronicles 22, we get good information as to why David couldn’t be the one to help build the temple of the Lord God, but only his son, Solomon. Now, David was in his later years in life, close to dying, and God did not wish for him to build it as well, but only his son. Sure, he started getting things in order, for it be built by getting masons involved with the building of it. It is said that ¹“David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.” (1 Chronicles 22:2) He also said, ¹“Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death. Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the Lord God of Israel. And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God: But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.” (1 Chronicles 22:5-8) So, although David wanted to be the one to build this temple for God, He was instructed not to. So we learn that although some people may be sorrowful for their past and be forgiven by God, the Lord may now have another person in-store to do something that may have been for us in the past. The Lord still has things in store for those that believe in Him, but maybe not the things He once wanted us to do.

It was God that told David that his son, Solomon, would be born for the purpose of building up the temple. He said, ¹“behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. Now, my son, the Lord be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the Lord thy God, as he hath said of thee.” (1 Chronicles 22:9-11) So David said this unto his son, in order for him to follow his call from God. ¹“David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying, Is not the Lord your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people. Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the Lord.” (1 Chronicles 22:17-19) The charge to build God’s first temple had fallen upon Solomon. The princes of Israel were also called to follow what his son commanded, for it would be from the Lord God Himself. Now, praise be to God for David and his faithfulness to God, up until the end of his life. Though David did not get to set foot in this house of the Lord, he most likely has in heaven. Every person that dies, having been saved through Jesus, will be able to enter into God’s holy tabernacle.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, thank You for preparing me to be with You one day. It is all I wish for to be in heaven with my King when I die. None of these earthly pleasures mean anything to me, but only the times I’ve had with Your presence in my life. Your blessings are what brings me joy, not what the world offers. People can take everything I have physically, but if I still have You, then my life is complete. No person is able to steal the joy I have in the Lord, my God. Your love and peace are what bears me up each day. You are my cornerstone and the rock of my foundation, oh Lord. I am able to think clearly and make better choices because You are with me. I don’t have to worry about being the victim of Satan’s lies, for You have me by the hand, and are my protector. I look to You in faith, for I know that You will always be there for me. I know that one day I will be with You in heaven. Even if it is while on earth during the millennial reign, my joy will be fulfilled. On this new earth or new heaven, wherever You are residing, I hope to be there with You. Even into Your Holy Tabernacle in the heavens, which will one day come down to earth, do I wish to enter in. There will I enter into Your holy city and bless You forevermore. I love Your commandments, and the laws that You have for us are imprinted upon my heart. To walk in Your laws is what makes me truly happy. Therefore, I hope to enter the doors of Your temple, and be allowed in to eat of the tree of life. I am Yours, my Lord, and You are mine. Be with me all my days, while on earth and in heaven. My reward comes from You and not from anyone else. So Lord, come quickly, as I am ready to receive You. You are so glorious and reigneth supreme on earth and in heaven. Holy, holy, is your Name. I lift You up high. I magnify Your Name. All the praise and honor to the Name of the Lord, my God. I love You. Amen.

1 Then David said, This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.
