Jesus Said That We Will Do Greater Works

Many people proclaim the name of Jesus, and it is happening all around the world. However, telling them that their faith alone is enough for salvation, is this correct? You may have heard that since Jesus finished His work on the cross, our faith is all we need now because of his grace, but is this Biblical? To answer this important question, we must look at what Jesus taught us. He said, 1“verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:12-15) It is true that Jesus’s works were finished on the cross, but now His followers can do greater works because He is with them. Isn’t this interesting? Especially when you hear pastors say that works are not necessary. Well then. This isn’t the same Jesus I believe in. I know what He taught and I stand by His teachings. If Jesus says that we are to do greater works than Him, then I will be His diligent servant, being a worker for His kingdom until the end. And as he said about love, we only love Him when we obey Him. We don’t love Him through our worship or faith, but through our obedience to God. Every follower of Jesus has faith in Him, while, while allowing His works to flow through their lives. This is real faith. So our faith, plus God’s Works in us, leads to salvation. Knowing this should cause people to repent and get right with God if they are doing nothing for His kingdom now. Don’t just believe people, but be familiar with the Bible.

Did the disciples of Christ, in the Bible, believe what Jesus said? Yes, they did. Paul said, 2“for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10) Many people stop at verse 9 when they hear that our faith in Christ saves us, not our works. However, if they were to continue reading to verse 10, they would know that when we are born again God’s works are now in us. We are then called to walk in His works, not our own. This leaves people to boast in God and not ourselves. James said, 3“hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?” (James 2:5) So we are saved when our faith leads us to love Jesus also. So what does loving Jesus mean? That we obey Him, as the Lord taught. James said, 3“what doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?” (James 2:14) 3“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” (James 2:17) So please look at your faith and what you are doing with it. Is it dead or alive in Christ? If you are obeying Jesus and keeping His commandments, then there is love in your heart for Him. However, if His works are not in You, then the works of the flesh are their instead. Don’t be conformed to the world, but do the will of the Father. Allow these greater works from God to flow through your life, that you may be the hands and feet for Christ while on earth.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, thank You for all that You have done for us on the cross. We were not able to be forgiven of our sins until You paid the penalty for our sins in Your suffering. This sacrifice is the greatest offering that men and women will ever know and come to understand when they look to You in faith. Surely, what You did for us on the cross, and while You were alive and well on earth, we could learn a lot from. If people would just lean on You, then they would come to realize all the great and many works You did for us. What I am amazed at now is that these works have not ended. You may have finished Your work on the cross, but Your works are continuing to pour out of every believer that puts their trust in You. You have said, we are able to do greater works because the comforter is with us now. Thank You, Lord. My faith is never complete unless the Holy Spirit is with me and I am out doing Your will. This is what brings me joy, not the will of my flesh. I can do and accomplish many things in this life, which is well and all for the praise and satisfaction of people, but all this is filthy rags in Your sight. Unless I am filled up with the Holy Spirit and living for You, then my works don’t matter. I can do and achieve many great things while I am alive, but if You are not being glorified in it, then it is all for my own boasting and not Your will. So please use me for Your kingdom. I know that my faith without Your works is dead. So breathe in me all my days the Holy Spirit, that Your spiritual gifts will come forth out of my life. It is my desire to be a blessing in Your kingdom for everyone that I come in contact with. I love You, Lord. I boast in my Lord and my Savior. Amen.

Ephesians 2
2Ephesians 2 (KJV)
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
James 2
3James 2 (KJV)
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
