David Set People Apart to Praise God Through Music

Each time I read about David’s life, I am amazed at how much he loved the Lord God and really showed this in the way he listened and obeyed him, along with worshipping Him not alone but with many others in his company. Continually, was he in prayer to God, while asking God for answers. Where God did instruct him in what he should do, in order to overcome the enemies. And because He believed in God and was always relying on him for His love, mercy, and strength, he orchestrated that love in return through music that lifted God up in praise. One such occasion was when 1“David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was: Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king. Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the Lord.” (1 Chronicles 25:1-3) Certain people were set apart in order to give thanks and praise God, which is awesome. It is said that they did this by playing their harps, psalteries, and cymbals. This was more than music and songs being performed, but an orchestra for God’s own ears, in special worship to His great Name. This is something that you may not have ever seen, although church worship service, Christian concerts, or other Christian orchestra or musical performance can be a reminder of what this is like.

My friends, when people come together for the one purpose of lifting up the Lord and giving Him praise, then something Spirit-filled is happening here. Our flesh is no longer being called upon, but our Spirit, for we are walking in it. This is when born again believers know the Lord and want to give back to Him with the praise and honor that He deserves. Now, in speaking of this, what David did continued, where 1“Heman: the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth: All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.” (1 Chronicles 25:4-7) It is said that people lifted up their horns as well as the instruments I mentioned above. It was for the purpose of making a beautiful song in the house of the Lord. It was for the service of our God also, for they honored the Lord with their whole hearts. These people did this often because of their great faith. So how is your faith? If you have not experienced anything like this before, would you like to? It doesn’t have to be a wish. Start small with your own worship to God in music, and join in with others. This is giving God praise, and He very much appreciates it when His servants honor Him.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will learn to listen and obey You, and also learn to give You honor and praise. How can we listen and obey You and not praise You in worship? How can we honor and praise You and not listen and obey You? This makes no sense, why we would want to do one thing and not the other. As true believers, we must also desire to love You with all our heart, mind, and strength. None of this can be lacking, if we say we love You, Lord. Therefore, we listen to You often, for we are Your sheep and can hear Your voice. And because we are Yours, we obey Your every word for us. It is like food for our souls and honey to our taste. We love everything You do for us God, and rely on Your blessings day in and day out. We follow You because You gave us a great example to live by while You were on earth, Jesus. So we ask that You shine Your light upon us, that many people will see You in us. It is amazing just to know that You are working in our lives and are able to bring us to this place of great joy. Therefore, we do lift our hands in worship to our mighty King. We honor You, Lord, through our songs of praise. If we sing out and play our instruments before You, it is to exalt Your Name on high. Your Name is greater than all other names. There is no one like You in the heavens and the earth. You are all-powerful, wise, merciful, forgiving, loving, kind, compassionate, caring, and considerate of our needs. You are our Father and will never forsake His children. Thank You, God. I love You so much. I praise You, Lord. May Your Name be lifted High. Amen.
