What Will You Be Remembered By?

Right now people are very fearful because of the coronavirus. And because many people have died already, it begs the question, what do you want to be known for when you pass on, one day, from death unto life? What will people remember you by? Will they remember you as a good coworker or supervisor, whom they trusted in, a teacher or student that they looked up to, a good friend, their sweet son or daughter, their wonderful brother or sister, or even a parent, grandparent, or relative, whom they loved also? Will there be characteristics about you that they will remember you by, such as your faith in Christ? Whatever you did for that person will be remembered. This can be said for believers and unbelievers. In both cases, if not us, people we love and care for do pass on to the grave every few years of our lifetime, as we get older in life. Funerals are hard in these cases, but come and go so quickly. It is like we were at their grave one day and haven’t been there now for years since. Usually, it isn’t until another funeral is set in motion for another loved one, that we remember our friend or relative, and visit their graves also. We may bring to their gravestones flowers and reflect on them for a moment or two. Now, all this is a kind gesture, for there is nothing wrong with remembering people we loved that have died in the past. However, for believers in Christ, you know what would be the best thing to be remembered by? Not our relationship with the person attending our funeral, although that is also good, but our relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you love Jesus, then everyone attending your funeral, one day, should know this. They should also have been witnessed to, because of your faith, if they did not already believe in Jesus Christ.

In David’s time, people were remembered in many different ways. We know this since people’s names and what they did are written in the book of Chronicles. Some were porters and chief men, who were ministers for God in His holy house. 1“Concerning the divisions of the porters: Of the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.” (1 Chronicles 26:1) 1“Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief;) Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen. Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the Lord.” (1 Chronicles 26:10-12) There were also men of valor, wise counselors, chief fathers, and their sons, who all worked in David’s kingdom. Whom 1“out of the spoils won in battles did they dedicate to maintain the house of the Lord.” (1 Chronicles 26:27) Many of these people’s names were recognized for their service to their king, and more importantly their God. As you read this chapter, you will notice all the different people and what they did mentioned. They are written down for a reason, and because of this, they will never be forgotten as long as we have the Bible. Now, when it comes to your life, you will also never be forgotten if your name is written in the book of life. People may have journals with your encounters in them and you may also have your writings for people to remember you by. However, it is more important for Jesus to know you come death. Make it a point for people to recognize you by your faith in Jesus. That the Lord, our God, has saved you before your time is up. God bless you.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that everyone I know and love will soon find out, if they don’t already, about my faith in You. I do not want this to be unnoticed from anyone that I associate with. And Lord, I pray that people will not just see that I believe in You because of the words I speak, but also by my actions. If I am not living my life out for You, then my faith is dead and not real at all. For how I can say that I love You and still be like everyone else in the world? How I can declare that Jesus is Lord, and continue a life of sin? So, Lord, I repent of all my sins this day. I do not wish to have anything left in secret any longer, but be in the open. Then, will people know the person I once was, and the person I am now am for You. I was once a liar, a fornicator, an adulterer, and much more until my heart was given to You fully. You heard my cries and had mercy for my soul. Now I know that You are real, because of all the many blessings that You have bestowed upon my life. If there is anything that I want to do now, it is to tell everyone about You, Jesus. I want people to know that there is a way out of a life of sin. There is no need to fear death. People can still be rescued from all their pains, their anxiety, their depression, their guilt, and their shame. For people that know me, it is one thing to know me as a good coworker, friend, brother, son, or relative, and to be known for my faith in You. I wish that no person would ever think that I was a hypocrite of what I said and not did. Instead, I wish my life would be an example of my faith in You, Jesus. I dedicate everything I do now and until I die to Your service. Whatever You would have me do in Your kingdom, I will do it. I love You, Lord. I trust in You above all things. You are Lord and I give You praise and honor. Amen.
