Job Wished He Had Never Been Born

In Job, chapter 3, we learn about the agony that Job was going through. The sadness he felt when he found himself covered from head to toes with boils, and having lost all of his children because of a horrific storm that destroyed the house they were in. Along with these pains, he had also lost about everything he had built up over the years in wealth and stature. This left him in a state of deep depression. His friends tried to comfort him in chapter 2, but still, his agony and pain persisted. In this chapter, you get to see exactly how he felt inside. It reads, 1“after this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day. And Job spake, and said, let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.” (Job 3:1-3) So after going through so much pain he wished that he was never even born. I’m not sure you have ever felt this before as well, being in the same sort of trials yourself. This is common for us all, of which some people have to suffer until their last breath in death. Job continued and said, 1“because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes. Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck? For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest.” (Job 3:10-13) Being in so much pain and misery, he wished that he never had to bear these pains, but died at birth instead. This may be hard to read but was true for Job and is for the lives of many people today. We may not see people when they are at home, but they could very well be suffering in the same or even worse conditions. All we can do is pray for them, while also reaching out to them. So we go to where they are staying and comfort them.

Job continued and said, 1“wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul; Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures; Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave? Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in? For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.” (Job 3:20-26) Wow! You can sense from these writings that Job was in immense pain. What he needed was comfort from people, of course, but more so the comfort from God’s hand. Only God could deliver him the peace he needed to carry on. Now, one thing that we need to realize is that in death there is no more pain or sorrow for those who die in Christ. Our pains will be released in death, not with suicide, lest we endure more pain in hell. So we live and die faithfully for God. In Revelation 21, it says, 2“and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Revelation 21:4-7) Live your life for Christ and everything will be made new in heaven. No more death or sorrow, but only joy, love, and happiness.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray for every person that is currently sick, experiencing a death in the family, having lost a job, going through financial issues, divorce, and other horrific things. The trials of life can be so hard to bear, but only You can deliver peace to these people and myself. You know my circumstances. How I live a life of chronic congestion in the nose and throat, where some days it can be very difficult to bear. Lord, I know that what I go through is nothing compared to others. So I pray that along with my healing in my body, I pray for others as well. Give me and other people a sense of relief and peace that surpasses all understanding. Some of us are meant to endure in our trials, which involves sickness, but others are healed. So if you would hear my prayer, oh God, and send a miracle to people who are suffering now, that would be amazing. Give them relief in the trials they are facing. Even if it isn’t because of illness, help them find peace when it is nowhere in sight. And others who are continually sick and need a way out, I pray for healing from above. I know that medicine can only go so far to relieve some of the pain, but You can do everything the world is incapable of. Miracles are not found in drugs but in Your hands. I’ve scene Your healing touch while praying for people on the streets, and now I just ask that You will heal from afar off also. To people who are hundreds to thousands of miles away, and are sick in their homes, in hospitals, assisted living facilities, and others, please help them. Come into their rooms this day. By Your power, many of them will be healing, find comfort, and also peace for their souls. May they know that this release of their anxiety came from only from You and not this world? Then, will they seek You also, Jesus, and be saved before it is too late. I love You. Amen.

4 Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
6 As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
