I Know That My Redeemer Liveth

As Job was being persecuted by his three friends, his wife, his servants, and even children, he was left all alone with nowhere to go but to God. It must have been a terrible feeling to know that he had lost almost everything, is now very sick, and now people he trusted in have now deserted him. You can see how he is feeling in Job, chapter 19, which he wrote, 1“my kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me. They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight. I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth. My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children’s sake of mine own body. Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me. All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me. My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth. Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me. Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?” (Job 19:14-22) I cannot even comprehend what Job was going through in all of this. Only heartache and pain are what comes to my mind. Job was in more pain than we could ever know and he was just looking for someone to help him out and deliver unto him peace. However, only God, his Redeemer, could do this for him, as you will see next.

It was in Job’s sorrow that he looked to God for comfort. He said something that is remarkable, seeing the circumstances he was in. It reads, 1“oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever! For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.” (Job 19:23-27) My friends, if you don’t already have these verses highlighted, I recommend it. What Job said is so important to us now. As he knew, we also know as believers that Jesus is our redeemer. He lived a perfect life and then died for our sins on the cross. Three days later, he rose from the dead. He is alive. Even in the last days that we are in, we know that Jesus will soon return in the clouds, along with the angels of heaven, with great glory. There, he will save his people, those who believed in and trusted in him. People who are alive in Christ and are dead will be raised up into everlasting life. Even if we die before this time happens and our bodies go down to the grave, we know that in our resurrected bodies we shall see Jesus, our God, and Redeemer. face to face. This was prophesied by Job and is the promise for everyone who puts their trust in Jesus Christ unto salvation.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, thank You for this life that I have lived. Thank You for filling it with my beautiful family, my wife, my children, my friends, and my co-workers. I have been so blessed over the years and I cannot begin to thank You enough for the life lived already. If I were to go today, I know that I will be with You forever. In this life, I have trusted in one thing more anything else and that is You, God. You are my rock and my firm foundation. I have been blessed with such amazing people and an abundance of great things, but that cannot take the place of You in my heart. You stand supreme above the rest. One thing I wish all the world would know is that You, Jesus, is our Redeemer and the Savior of all. There is salvation only through Your Name, and no one else. There are many counterfeit paths in this world, which all lead to destruction, but I pray that more people will be delivered from such evil and wicked things. Only through the Holy Spirit can people find what is the best thing in this world and that is having Your presence with us at all times. We cannot find everlasting joy from the things of this world, but only what You can offer us. I have found peace that is beyond comprehension. You have delivered unto me comfort that I could not find anywhere else. Even my hope has been restored, because of the wisdom that You have given me and not anyone else. If I am made new, it is because of Your mighty hand. I love You, Jesus. I can’t wait to see You after this life is all set and done. Amen.

1 Then Job answered and said,
2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
3 These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.
