Who Are The Seven Holy Angels?

In Revelation, chapter 8, we learn about seven holy angels, but not their names. However, this knowledge was not kept from us, but available to all the saints of God who searched the scriptures. And that is what we will be doing today. Now, to begin let’s read in revelation, which reads, 3“and I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets. And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.” (Revelation 8:2-4) These were very special angels who stood before God’s throne. And of their names is Raphael, although you may ask how I knew this. Well, in Tobit 12, it reads, 2” I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels, which present the prayers of the saints, and which go in and out before the glory of the Holy One.” (Tobit 12:15) So this confirms the fact that there are seven angels around God’s throne, whom God calls archangels. These are the highest-ranking angels in heaven and do His most important work. Tobit also talks about Raphael being there 2“when thou didst bury the dead, I was with thee likewise.” (Tobit 12:12) This is speaking of Sara, who was bearing the dead. So does Raphael have to do with the spirits of the dead? We shall soon find out.

Now, wouldn’t it be nice to verify what Raphael’s job is and to also get the remainder of the names of the seven holy angels? Well, we are in luck, since the book of Enoch identifies all their names. You may have already guessed Gabriel and Michael, but others are also made known to us. It reads, 1“these are the names of the angels who watch. Uriel, one of the holy angels, who presides over clamour and terror. Raphael, one of the holy angels, who presides over the spirits of men. Raguel, one of the holy angels, who inflicts punishment on the world and the luminaries. Michael, one of the holy angels, who, presiding over human virtue, commands the nations. Sarakiel, one of the holy angels, who presides over the spirits of the children of men that transgress. Gabriel, one of the holy angels, who presides over Ikisat, over paradise, and over the cherubim.” (Enoch 20) So what we just read identifies each of the angels and their main duties for God, although they may do other things as well. One of them being Raphael, who presides over the spirits of men. Now, doesn’t make sense that he was with Sara when she was bearing the dead? It does to me. You can learn more about what Raphael told Sara in this chapter in Tobit, which I hope you read. As for the validity of what I make mention to you today. I believe that Tobit and Enoch are also God’s resources for us today, in order to help us understand the Bible. What I just showed you explain an important mystery in Revelation, and praise God for that.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that as believers, we will have the protection from Your holy angels. I am grateful to know about them in scripture and wish to also be protected by them at all times. I know that one day we will see Your holy angels first hand, but I pray that You will send them to me and my household today and forever, that we will grow stronger in the faith because they are there with us. I love You Jesus and know that what You have done for the prophets and saints of old, by sending Your holy angels to help them, You can do the same for us as well. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, and love us the same as You have loved Your people in times past. Therefore, I trust that I can be healed from my illness because of an angel or prayers of Your saints. Through this, I can be restored into new life and be made whole. You can heal people through men and women of God who trust in You and are willing to be Your holy vessels on earth. However, only a few people reach out to You to be Your willing servants. Therefore, many people in the faith suffer in their sicknesses and grief throughout their lives. So many people, God, are chronically ill with no way out but death that is close at hand. To this, I pray that if it is Your will that more people will be healed and not have to suffer for years until their death. This is a terrible way to die, and I pray that angels and saints of God will come and restore these people into new health. We don’t do this on our own accord, but only by Your might hand. We don’t deserve any glory but give it all to You. You are worthy of all our praise and glory. We honor You, God, and lift You up high. I love You. Amen.

Tobit 12
2Tobit 12 (KJV)
1 Then Tobit called his son Tobias, and said unto him, My son, see that the man have his wages, which went with thee, and thou must give him more.
2 And Tobias said unto him, O father, it is no harm to me to give him half of those things which I have brought:
3 For he hath brought me again to thee in safety, and made whole my wife, and brought me the money, and likewise healed thee.
4 Then the old man said, It is due unto him.
5 So he called the angel, and he said unto him, Take half of all that ye have brought and go away in safety.
6 Then he took them both apart, and said unto them, Bless God, praise him, and magnify him, and praise him for the things which he hath done unto you in the sight of all that live. It is good to praise God, and exalt his name, and honourably to shew forth the works of God; therefore be not slack to praise him.
7 It is good to keep close the secret of a king, but it is honourable to reveal the works of God. Do that which is good, and no evil shall touch you.
8 Prayer is good with fasting and alms and righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than much with unrighteousness. It is better to give alms than to lay up gold:
9 For alms doth deliver from death, and shall purge away all sin. Those that exercise alms and righteousness shall be filled with life:
10 But they that sin are enemies to their own life.
11 Surely I will keep close nothing from you. For I said, It was good to keep close the secret of a king, but that it was honourable to reveal the works of God.
12 Now therefore, when thou didst pray, and Sara thy daughter in law, I did bring the remembrance of your prayers before the Holy One: and when thou didst bury the dead, I was with thee likewise.
13 And when thou didst not delay to rise up, and leave thy dinner, to go and cover the dead, thy good deed was not hid from me: but I was with thee.
14 And now God hath sent me to heal thee and Sara thy daughter in law.
15 I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels, which present the prayers of the saints, and which go in and out before the glory of the Holy One.
16 Then they were both troubled, and fell upon their faces: for they feared.
17 But he said unto them, Fear not, for it shall go well with you; praise God therefore.
18 For not of any favour of mine, but by the will of our God I came; wherefore praise him for ever.
19 All these days I did appear unto you; but I did neither eat nor drink, but ye did see a vision.
20 Now therefore give God thanks: for I go up to him that sent me; but write all things which are done in a book.
21 And when they arose, they saw him no more.
22 Then they confessed the great and wonderful works of God, and how the angel of the Lord had appeared unto them.
Revelation 8
3Revelation 8 (KJV)
1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
