When People Attack Us, Not Knowing Our Faith

When it comes to Job’s life, did his friends or other people know him the way God did? Of course not. They did not know that the Lord said the following about Job to Satan… ¹“And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.” (Job 2:3) Or how about the times that Job said, ²“also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high. My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.” (Job 16:19,20) And lastly, when Job said, ³“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.” (Job 19:25,26) Does this sound like a self-righteous person to you? Of course not. We see a man who God said was perfect and upright in His sight and who feared Him and hated evil. Even while being persecuted by his so-called friends, he cried out to God in prayer. What amazes me is that people could not see how much Job loved the Lord after he declared that he knew that his redeemer lives. Job predicted even Jesus’s coming in the last days, where He shall see God also. This will happen the graves are opened and will enter the clouds with Jesus. Even us as Christians will be raised up to be with Him also.

Now, as I just mentioned, Job was not liked by many people after calamity fell upon him and his wife. They lost almost everything and even Job was plagued with boils all over his body. I can just imagine the pain he was in, in these moments. However, it was while in pain that he said the following about praying to God and knowing that his Redeemer lives. As you can see, his trust in God did not waver, though people saw him as self-righteous. It was in this time that Elihu said the following to Job… ⁴“Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s? For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?” (Job 35:2,3) ⁴“If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him? If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?” (Job 35:6,7) ⁴“Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him. But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity: Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.” (Job 35:14-16) What Elihu was doing was putting words in Job’s mouth, which he never said. He was full of accusations of Job being in sin and not knowing God. And what is sad is that this happens a lot in our day also. People think they know you and therefore accuse you of things wrongfully.

Daily Prayer:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will stop judging one another and defaming their good name. So many people attack different people in the faith when they know nothing about their deep and intimate relationship with You, God. This is very disheartening and I pray that if people have concerns about someone that they will come to the person themselves and not spread lies. And if people come to the person who they think is in sin or has said false things, then have them come to them with love and respect, not with any anger. Surely, a spirit of animosity is never going to help anyone come to know You, God, even if they are wrong. Lord, help people know that we cannot be the ones convicting people of sin, but only Your Holy Spirit. Therefore, we must be led by You and not ourselves. Otherwise, we may be jumping the gun and saying and doing something that we will soon regret. Lord, I have many people who think I am a false prophet and a false teacher, which is hurtful. They say that what I teach is wrong according to their own beliefs. Therefore, people have spread lies about me to other people and then come at me with anger and disdain. Lord, help these people know my true heart for You. May they know that I love You with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength. Everything I do in life is for You. You are my Redeemer and the Lord God of my life. I wish people would want to talk to me about my faith instead of attacking me. Now I know how Job was feeling when He was being persecuted by his friends and other people. Lord, may Your will be done in my life. I need Your understanding from the Bible and prayer. Teach me Your ways and don’t let my views change because of people’s own views on things. I love You, God. I give You praise and glory. Amen.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

Job 16

1 Then Job answered and said,
2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
6 Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
7 But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
9 He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

Job 19

2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
3 These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.
4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
6 Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
10 He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
11 He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.

25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.

Job 35

1 Elihu spake moreover, and said,
2 Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?
3 For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?
4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.
6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.
9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
