The Armor Of God

What we need is more and more of God’s presence in our lives. With the Lord God doing His will in us we are also protected from the enemy. This is when we are built up in God’s armor and no longer found weak when temptations come. So how do we put on this armor? God’s word helps us know this. Paul taught us and said, “finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” (Ephesians 6:10-18) Many people have read these verses, but only a few people have done what is instructed. If so, fewer people would be giving in to temptation and living for God instead. There are no more addictions when God is with us.

Now, let us go through what makes up the armor of God. We stand up with God’s truth built up in our loins. This is done through our knowledge of God’s Word and what has been taught. We put on a breastplate of righteousness. This is done by giving up our fleshly and sinful ways and being baptized into the newness of life. This allows us to live differently and have the Holy Spirit to lead us in the ways of holiness. Our feet are ready to go forth in our city, nation, or other places in this world, in order to preach the gospel message of the cross and resurrection. That Jesus died for our sins and then rose the third day. All those that believe in Him can be saved. We are ready to be God’s witnesses, for He gives us boldness to share His truths with others. There is also a shield of faith that is always round about us. This shield catches all the fiery darts that the evil one throws at us, that it may not penetrate our flesh. We can prevail when it comes to temptation, but we must be engaged with God’s shield first. The helmet we wear signifies to others our deep love and devotion to Jesus, our Savior. He has saved us, and therefore, we are clothed in His righteousness. We also have a sword, which is engaged at all times through the help of the Holy Spirit. It is with us because of God’s Word that forms it. You see, our constant study in God’s Word helps us to know of God, where the Holy Spirit helps us live out His Godly principles in our lives. And to complete the armor is our prayer time with God. We don’t just pray for our needs, but for the welfare of others. Be found doing these things and you will be shod with the armor of God.

Let us pray:
Oh lord, I pray that people will remember that we are called to put on the whole armor of God. We can’t be true believers and also be found living for our fleshly desires instead of You. This is like saying that people love their sin, like pornography, but still want to go church on the weekends. Unfortunately, people need to make a choice today. What side are they really on? For if we chose to follow You, then we would be built up in Your armor at all times and in all places. We would no longer be found in addiction, for You would be guiding our lives. We would be baptized into newness of life. So, Lord, I pray that You will raise up warriors in Your kingdom. People who are truly kingdom people and not just bystanders. Those who love You in their words and deeds. That our works will show forth because of our faith in You. We know that we are not saved through our works, but that our works are the fruits of our salvation. Help us, oh Lord. We know that we cannot do any good thing on our own part, so we need the Holy Spirit to strive within us. May we remember the importance of reading the Bible daily, along with praying often. Only through this can people be drawn to love for You. So much so as to choosing good Christian friends to be around. To limit their time on their phones, tablets, TV, and computers, so that there is ample time for You. Lord, as Christians, we don’t just desire to put You first, but we do so every minute of every day. We love You more than anything else. Our treasures are found in You and not this world. This world can take us down by way of sickness, persecution, financial issues, and death, but if we are saved, then we are happy. You make us happy and joyful above all else. I love You, God. Amen.
