The Roles of The Holy Spirit

Jesus teaches us all about the Holy Spirit in John, chapter 16. Everything we need to know about its presence and what it can do for our lives is all in this chapter. So pay close attention to what Jesus said. He taught, “nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” (John 16:7-14) There is so much here for us to learn about His power, but to begin, let us look at what the Holy Spirit is called, which is the Comforter. He is only with us now because Jesus is now gone away in heaven. He has many roles, and one of them is to be our guide in this dark world. Therefore, it is so important that we heed what God says, that the Spirit may be among us at all times, lest we stumble and fall. We do not wish to die and have God’s judgments fall down upon us, because we did our own things.

Now, the roles of the Holy Spirit are many. One being, to reprove the world of sin. This is because of the unbelief in this world we live in. Therefore, it needs be that He come and pierce people’s hearts to repent. Then, can God rescue them and lead them onto His righteous path, apart from willful sin that leads to death. The next thing he does is lead us into all righteousness. Because Jesus isn’t here physically, the Spirit is what leads us on a path that helps us seek after holiness and purity in our lives. Things the world hates, but those who are saved, love. For we do not wish to lose the Holy Spirit or quench it because of willful sin. Therefore, we do all that the Spirit leads us in, that we may be found doing His will and not our own. The third role of the Holy Spirit is judgment. We know that Satan is already judged for His vile and wicked acts, but even us who are under His evil influences are judged also in the same way. Only by being delivered from his hands, can people escape the judgment to come. Even does the Holy Spirit help us know what causes God’s judgements to fall upon us, that we do not purposely allow this to happen. Therefore, the Holy Ghost does lead us into all truth and things to come in your life and this world. What He receives is from Jesus, which is also glorifying Jesus our Lord. Now the question is, do you have the Holy Spirit with you? If not, then let God fill you with the Spirit. Baptism is another way the gift of the Holy Ghost is bestowed upon believers.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, our God, come and breath upon us the Holy Spirit. We do not wish to be led by the evil one, but by Your hand alone. So come and take us now. We are waiting. If there is any sin in our lives, take that also. We know that it is impossible to please You unless the Spirit is with us. Therefore, our arms are open for You to receive us. Find us in the place we are at and make a way that all chains will be broken. We are sorry for falling away from You but are ready now to do Your will. Forgive us, God. Place us on Your righteous path. Keep us apart from harm’s way and lead us from temptation. We believe in You, Jesus. I know that You cannot be with us physically but through the Holy Spirit. In His presence are You able to be made known to us through dreams, visions, and many other ways. Even You have shown Yourself unto me and I am so grateful. Thank You for showing Yourself to me in more ways than I could ever imagine. I have seen You through reading the Bible, praying for myself and others, worshipping, service, evangelizing, and other ways also. You have made Yourself to me and have lit up my life in Your love. I know that many others are able to see You now also. You are a faithful God and have not left us comfortless. The Holy Spirit is our comforter and our greatest guide of all. Because You are giving Him words to speak and guidance that we need, we are safe in this dark world. Oh, how I am grateful for all that You do in my life, God. I love You so much. I praise You. Amen.
