As Christians, we do not walk in the flesh as the world does but walk in the Spirit. God is now with us, so our thoughts and actions are different. To understand this better, Paul said, “this I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:16-18) It is lust that causes a lot of people, even in the faith, to get into trouble. Lust causes people to have sex with their significant other before marriage, look at pornography, have an affair with a co-worker or someone else, and also desire things we should not have in our lives. If anybody is caught up in these sinful deeds, then they need to run to the Lord in all their confessions. And if they are sincere, then His mercy will be for them. If people’s hearts are open to God, then He will come into their lives and transform them. Even to a point where the Holy Spirit is now leading them.
Paul also taught, “now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these ; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:19-25) We now know what the works of the flesh are compared to the works of the Spirit. Now, which path do you want to be on? A path that leads to heaven through the Spirit or a path that leads to hell through the lusts of the flesh. Make a decision today to get right with God by coming unto Jesus if you have not already. Then, the fruits of the Spirit will become evident in your life. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, help us to not be led by our lustful passions. We need Your hand in our lives to not fall victim to sin and death. Without You, we are like sitting ducks to the fiery darts to the enemy. I hate it when I fall and go against Your will. I feel like I have failed You each time. You know the things I have done and I am so sorry to have sinned against You, God. I could have done a better job to live in Your presence, but I went off and did my own things. So hear my confessions and know that my heart is for You now. Forgive me, Lord. Help me to live up to Your standards that I might do what is right. Lead me from temptation, that I might be led by Your mighty hand instead of myself. I believe in You, Lord. You are my strong tower. I cannot fall if You are before me. My life is Yours and not my own. Give me guidance and direction. I will follow You. I love You, Lord. Amen.
