Jesus Became The Last High Priest: Part 1

There was once a need for high priests. They were important during the times of the tabernacles on earth. This is because of the sin offerings that they did with spotless lambs for the people. However, you don’t have this same need after Jesus paid the last sacrifice for us on the cross. With Him shedding His blood, He ended the animal sacrifices, for His sacrifice was able to endure forever. In saying this, there is much to learn about what used to take place before Jesus came and in Hebrews, chapter 5, we learn so much. It reads, “for every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.” (Hebrews 5:1-4) Amen. Their roles were important during the times of the Old Testament, but have since been removed with Jesus.

In Hebrews, we learn why we are to look to Christ for the forgiveness of sins and no longer a high priest. It reads, “so also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.” (Hebrews 5:5-9) Because Jesus’s atonement is never-ending, He also becomes a high priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. Jesus was obedient all the way to His crucifixion and death. Therefore, He was perfect in all His ways and became the author and finisher of our faith. There is eternal salvation in heaven to all those who obey Him. Jesus is the way to heaven. All other ways lead to death and hell. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will do a work in me that has never been seen before. Cover me with Your blood, that was shed for us on the cross. Sanctify me and cleanse me of all my sins. Have mercy upon me a sinner and forgive me of my sins. I look to You in faith. It is my prayer that You will keep me from harms way. I wish to live for You now and no longer the world. Lead me from temptation. Help me to see the eternal prize at the end of the tunnel. I know that you are preparing a place for those people who believe in You, Jesus, and also do as You say. So I ask, will You also prepare a place for me? Please open Your doors, that I may also be welcomed home one day. I wish to be in a place where I can hear the angels and the saints singing. Where all creation is singing and blessing Your Name, forevermore. I also praise You, Lord, and no one else. I worship You, God. I give You glory. Halleluiah! Thank You for coming into my life and for saving me, Lord. Remember me when I take my last breath on earth. I wish to enter Your rest in paradise. I love You, Lord. You are my God and my Good Shephard. Amen.
