The Flood Came

If there was a time to not be around on the earth as an unbeliever it had to be the flood, next to the second coming of Jesus. Surely, Noah must have looked like a lunatic, not knowing what he was doing building an ark. There was no lake or ocean even close to where he lived and people probably heard his words but scoffed at them. What they didn’t realize is that God would have opened the doors to them and other people being saved if they would have heard the message and trusted in God. However, the sad thing is, is that only Noah, his family, and their wives were the ones preserved from the wrath to come. It is written, “and the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.” (Genesis 7:1-3) This ark was large enough to hold all the myriads of animals that needed to be preserved. It is too bad that more people didn’t believe what Noah was preaching. Then, and only then could they be saved and not have to drown in such a horrible death. The people in that timeframe must have had some great possessions and even technologies that we may not have today. But with everything in life, it will all one day pass away come death.

Many people in the times of Noah most likely didn’t even know how to swim. They had nothing to keep them afloat like life jackets, but finding pieces of wood and other things to hold onto for dear life. However, because the flood water lasted for forty days and forty nights many people’s strength would have been given out by then. Only a few exceptions would have been Goliath’s ancestors who were giants, for he appears after the flood. Speaking of the flood, we learn that “for yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth. And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him. And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.” (Genesis 7:4-7) What a time this was. I can just imagine all the screams the people on the boat heard. And this must have lasted many nights until it was finally at peace. The people that were safe knew of people that have drowned and this must have been discouraging to know about. And I feel similarly about people in the world now who disregard the need to believe in and follow Jesus. If they stay like this, then they will also miss the boat and be punished come death. So I pray that God will use me to reach many people unto salvation. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that not only me, but many others will heed Your calling for our lives, and also follow You. I do not wish to miss the ark as many others have already. I also pray that You will lead me to people that I can help come to know You, Jesus. I do not wish that anybody else that knows me will die in their sins and be punished come judgment day. It may not be a physical boat that we need to enter like in the times of the flood, but it is similar when we come to know You by heeding Your commands and not turning back. I love to look to You in faith, for You are always there for me. You deserve the highest praise, of which sing to You now, most precious God. I wish that I would always know Your will for my life and also give into it at all times. So please continue to press into me this day and forever, while giving me the answers in life that I am seeking. Also, if there is something I am not seeking that I should be, give me counsel in that also. Also, help me know if I am not in your right standing. I don’t want to follow what the flesh desires but be led by the Holy Spirit instead. It is my desire to be in line with Your will and not my own. Keep me afloat that I may not drown because of willful sins and false beliefs. If you are with me, I can achieve anything in life. I love You, Lord. Keep my ways straight and narrow, which lead to heaven. I want more of You and less me. I believe that You are God, Jesus, and the Lord of my life. I trust in You, God, above all else. Amen.
