Jesus Speaks Of The Crimes Of Sodom

If you were to rank the most evil cities of all time, Sodom and Gomorrah would be ranked at the top. Only the cities that appeared before the flood and in our day and age today does it match the wickedness therein. Sexual sin like fornication and adultery are generally thought of, but homosexuality is why God poured out His wrath upon this city. This type of sin was also pre-flood and in our time today. Therefore, the flood came to cleanse the earth of this and other sins. It also happened because of the transgressions of the fallen angels having sex with women and producing giants. And now in Genesis, chapter 18, God’s judgment is upon the city of Sodom. It reads, “and the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?” (Genesis 18:20-23) So as the angels went down to find anybody who is righteous in the city, Abraham began to ask God to spare the people on behalf of the righteous.

Now, as we found out in earlier verses in this chapter, the Lord and two angels came and visited Abraham, even having dinner with him and his wife in their tent. And in the previous message, I said it was Jesus who came with the angels. We will find this out in the next verses of this chapter. Abraham gives it away when he said, “peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:24,25) And here Abraham mentions that the person who He is speaking with, who is Lord, is also the judge of all the earth. And according to Paul, this is Jesus. He said, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” (2 Corinthians 5:8-10) One day we will all come before Jesus, who is Lord, in judgment.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will begin to repent from all their sins. That not one of them is swept under the rug. God, make us aware of anything and everything that we need to remove from our lives. This way we can live in Your holiness and have the Holy Spirit be with us. I am afraid that there are only a few people on earth that live in the constant presence of the Holy Spirit. Praise be to God for those true Christians who are really seeking Your face on a daily basis. And good grief, God, that we have so many fake Christians out there. Who is truly willing to give things up for Your sake? Nothing in this life is more important than following You, Jesus, for salvation. If it was up to me, I would say, Lord, take me home today. However, I know that my life is not over yet. I have much more work to do for your kingdom. People may laugh and scoff at me, calling me a Jesus freak, but if they just knew how awesome your presence is in my life, they would take all that back. Lord, You mean more to me than anything else. As for my sins, I am so grateful that You have forgiven me and cleansed me through Your blood. Your Spirit now abides in me and I have a shield to protect me from the enemy. Thank You, Jesus. Continue to lead me Lord, all my days. I am Yours and You are mine. I love You. Amen.
