Judah And His Daughter In Law

Please know that what you think is secret is always known to God. And if it is God’s will, then the secret sin will be made known to everyone around you. This can be adultery, fornicating and sleeping around, looking at porn, doing drugs, and more. As for Judah, his two sons had been married to a lady named Tamar and both died. However, the story with Tamar did not end there. There was a day that she played the harlot and Judah took her in unknowingly and got her pregnant. However, this secret sin was not kept for very long before it got out. It is written, “and it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff. And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.” (Genesis 38:24-26)

Isn’t it amazing how our desires change when we are caught in a lie? At first, Judah wanted Tamar to be burned at the stake, but knowing it was he who fornicated with her, all was forgiven. Also, he could no longer cover up what he did, so taking her in to be his wife was what he thought was best. Judah and Tamar then begat twins, Pharaz and Zarah. It is written, “and it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb. And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first. And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez. And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.” (Genesis 38:27-30) These children may not have come into the world the right way because of fornication, but nonetheless, the babies did come with no harm to them or the mother also. It is my belief that God forgave Judah for this transgression.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will help me and other Christians stay faithful unto You. I know that I have had my slew of mistakes these many years, for which I have asked You for forgiveness. Thankfully, You are a good God and Your mercy is for those who are really sorry for their sins. One thing I know is that every sin needs to be taken care of quickly and not swept under the rug. I have had things creep up, of which things would have been nothing if I had said something in the past about it. Thankfully, You are so patient and have not given up on me or other people who are convicted of our sins because of our new nature. My flesh is weak, but the Holy Spirit is what makes me a better person. I can walk in Your light because You are leading me and not myself. If I did all the work, then I would do nothing good. Surely, nothing is good on earth unless it is orchestrated by Your hand, God. I wish that people would understand this fact. The world has a way to make things appear to be good superficially, but without, You these things will all vanish away over time. Only Your gifts continue for all time. I trust in You, Jesus. I love You, Lord. Guide me in everything I do. Amen.

  1. It NEVER pays to lie. This reminds me of 2 scriptures. One is Proverbs 28:13 and that scripture says this: Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. The other is Isaiah 29:25 and that scripture says this: Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? It’s just best that we tell the truth and the whole true the first time. Also think of God first before you tell a lie. Think of Him and how He and you will feel both when you tell the lie and at judgement and think of that before you think of anyone else, including yourself. That will help you make the right choice when you are tempted to lie and when you are faced with the choice between telling the truth and lying.
