Jesus’s Birth Prophecy: Genesis 49

One of the earliest prophecies of Jesus coming into the world, and being from the lion of the tribe of Judah comes from Genesis, chapter 49. Those who read through this chapter quickly may not see this fact, but those who study it out and have eyes to see can see this mystery from heaven above. It is written about Judah and says, “Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee. Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come.” (Genesis 49:8-10) So we have a very important person coming from the tribe of Judah in the future, being like unto a lion. This same person, people would bow down to and praise. And what learn here is the characteristics of one man who is Jesus. He is a lion from the tribe of Judah, of which deserves our praise.

The reason I can say that Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy in Genesis, chapter 49, is because Revelation, chapter 5, speaks of Jesus in this way. Speaking of a book that was sealed, it is written, “and I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” (Revelation 5:4,5) This is speaking of Jesus. Notice how Jesus is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah as was prophesied. Also, look at how the people and angels in heaven react to Jesus and His presence. It reads, “and they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” (Revelation 5:9) Surely, Jesus did come into the world, in order to save us from our sins. We are redeemed through His blood. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will begin to seek You with our whole hearts. There are so many things in the Bible that You wish to show us, but because people find their desires in other things, Your wisdom is kept from their knowledge. These same people have not come to know You yet for salvation, even though most will claim to. It is Your word that is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Because I read the Bible daily, my desire to pray is increased. Because I study out each chapter in the Bible, my desire to follow You is increased. Because I write on the chapters I read, I listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit and obey. You are everything to me, God. I want less of me and more of You in my life. Give me more and more wisdom, like You did for Solomon. I don’t need the riches in this world to be happy, but Your redeeming blood. Thank You for coming into this world, Jesus, and saving a wretch like me. I was lost, but then You found me. I love You, God. Amen.
