Moses’s Marriage To Zipporah

The story of Moses coming out of Egypt the first time is where he met his wife Zipporah. Her father being the priest of Midian. It was when Moses drew away the shepherds that came to still their flock that her father was pleased. His gift to Moses was one of his daughters, which Moses chose Zipporah. Here is that story. “Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock. And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock. And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day? And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock. And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread. And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.” (Exodus 2:16-21) She would then bear him children.

It was at this time that Moses was with the Midianites, that his wife had a son called “Gershom”. This was his first child. At around the same time, the king of Egypt died, although the children of Israel still were not set from their slavery and hard labor. Because of their bondage, they cried unto God. This is when the Lord saw them in their affliction and had compassion upon them. We will learn how God would come and rescue them in the next chapter. It is written, speaking of Zipporah, “and she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land. And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.” (Exodus 2:22-25) Surely, God does here our cries and comes to our rescue. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I give You thanks for my wife and my two beautiful daughters. They are a blessing to my life. Surely, the day that I met my wife I knew that she was different among the other women I dated. And now I know why I felt this way. It was You directing me to her. Thankfully I listened to these promptings, for now, we are in year 15 of the marriage and my two daughters are in high school and nearing the end of grade school. We are happy because You are with us. So much has changed over the years. You have done a mighty work in my life and there’s also. Together, You have led us to Calvary Chapel. For many years, my heart cried out for answers. I was lost in my false beliefs and needed to be rescued. There was also much sin in my life because of lust. I prayed for help and You came to my rescue. In my tears did You forgive me of all my sins. You remembered me among the billions of people on earth and had compassion for my soul. Through Your blood, Jesus, am I made new. You have set me free! I love You, Lord. Lead me all the rest of my days. Amen.
