The Magicians Noticed The Finger of God

God did use Moses and Aaron to showcase His mighty power on earth. This was necessary in order to help the Egyptians know that the God of Israel is real and alive. The Hebrews did not worship a god of stone that could not speak, but a God that can pierce through the hearts of any person that is alive. His miracles and plagues are like nothing the world has ever seen. Even then the people tried to replicate everything God was doing and came up short so many times. Here is one plague that God sent among the Egyptians that must have been so terrible to bear. I am speaking of dust transforming into lice, which came on and into people and animals. It is written, “and the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt. And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 8:16,17) These types of plagues are for the wicked, especially if they do not repent.

One of the many things that the magicians could not replicate is lice. This single plague caused them to think to themselves that they were messing with God. They even mentioned the finger of God, which I think is awesome to notice. Did any of them repent and come to the Lord? We will never know. All we know is that the pharaoh’s heart continued to be headend against God and his wishes for His people. It would surely take more than these plagues that God has sent into Egypt before he would ever budge and let God’s people go free. However, the magicians were ready to give in. It is written, “and the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.” (Exodus 8:18,19) And we ought to think to ourselves also, am I open to God’s will or is my heart hardened? My friends, it is not worth living a life separate from God. Let the Lord in and you will find joy and salvation in the next life.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will no longer harden their hearts against You. So many people in the world we live in are living for the flesh instead of Your will. Sin is abiding in people’s lives instead of people living for Your holiness. Cuss words are often used uncontrollably, while lustful and covetous thoughts are on full display. Instead of cutting off things out of people’s lives like pornography, alcohol, drugs, and bad influences, people are continuing to give in to these things like it doesn’t matter. What does this say? It says that not everyone who calls You Lord is actually a genuine believer. How many real Christians are out there that love Your ways and hate the sinful things of this world? I will never know. All I know, God, is that this number is smaller than I ever thought. I am happy that I cannot see how people are thinking and acting when they are outside the doors of their church building, for I would be very much upset and depressed by what I am seeing. But You, Lord, do this and much more. So many people must be quenching the Spirit and not even realizing it. But God, make a way for many more people to escape the evils of this world, in order to find You and be saved. I love You, God. Amen.
