A Peculiar People And Treasure In God’s Eyes

It was in the times of Moses that God carried His people out of Egypt, like unto eagle’s wings. It is through God’s love that the Israelites were set free from slavery. However, God desired much more from His people than what they were giving Him. That is to listen and obey His voice while keeping His covenants. Only then would they become a peculiar treasure among all others. It is written, “and Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.” (Exodus 19:3-5) God asks the same from us now, even the Gentiles who are adopted in as sons and daughters of God through faith in Jesus. Only if we listen to the Lord’s voice will we become His treasure.

God continued and said, “and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him. And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.” (Exodus 19:6-8) Peter also references these verses and said, “but ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” (1 Peter 2:9) Truly, you are a chosen generation under Jesus’s royal priesthood if you are harkening to the Lord’s voice in your life. We are not a particular people if we speak, dress, and live like the world does. God has called us out of darkness and into His light. Only people who allow the Lord to do this are truly saved. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, we come to You in open arms. Our lives are ready to receive You with all our hearts. Nothing in our lives comes before You any longer for You are our God and our King. We worship You, Father. Have Your way in our lives. May Your will be done in our lives as it is in heaven. Prepare us in this life to live for You that we may be ready in the next. I want to go to heaven when I die, but I also know that unless You make me a peculiar person, then that will never happen. I know very well that my sinful desires could keep me out of heaven and land me in the lake of fire instead. Therefore, I come to You daily in prayer and Bible study, in order to learn from You and also do as You say. Your words are important for my life and I will live by them as long as I have breath. Keep me in Your right standing, that I might become a light to my friends, family, co-workers, and other people around me. You are the light of the world, Jesus, and I pray that Your light will come into my life like never before. I love You, Lord. Amen.
