The Ten Commandments: #6

One of the ten commandments that people have broken so many times over the centuries is “thou shalt not kill.(Exodus 20:13) This means that murder is evil like our own laws say, but people continue to do so, even with their own lives in suicide and think they are right with God. Surely, God forgives all things that we commit while in this life except for denying the Holy Spirit. This includes murderers. This important fact is something that every person in prison and on death row needs to know about. Although the families of the victims don’t want them to find mercy from God and be forgiven, it is in God’s will for every person to have mercy. The truth is, everybody has a chance to be forgiven of their sins by God, but most people deny this opportunity and die in their sinful state. I have been into many jails and it is sad to see these prisoners locked into such small corridors. However, many of them will go to heaven if they put their trust in Jesus and repent of their sins. Around the world, many of these people will die in prison, while others will eventually be killed on death row. However, into paradise they will go.

Most people think of the commandment, thou shalt not kill, as meaning murder and nothing else. However, Jesus raised the bar and said that it also means to be angry. See exactly what he meant by this as you read the following verses. “Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.” (Matthew 5:21,22) So being angry with people without any cause, we are in danger of being found guilty in judgment. Calling people “raca”, which means worthless, or good-for-nothing is held even more accountable in judgment. The worst act of all is calling people fools, for God deals with them even more harshly, while casting them into the lake of fire. These murderous sins can be forgiven in this lifetime, but it must come with a sincere heart to change our ways for God. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, it is in Your arms that I wish to ever be. Even in this life, I know that I can stay in Your arms as I wake up each day and seek Your face with all my heart. Yes, God, protect me and never let me go. Since the day that You came and rescued me, I have not been the same. You have come and taken all my sinful desires and replaced them with doing Your will instead. Surely, I don’t deserve all Your kindness, love, patience, mercy, and forgiveness. You have offered up all the good things to heaven to be a part of a person’s life who once walked in willful sin. I often wonder what it was about me to continue being so patient with me. All I know is that I don’t deserve Your pardon. My sins were great, but somehow You saw past them. Thank You, Jesus. I am set free through Your blood that was shed on the cross. But please do not stop with me when it comes to my wife, kids, siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, and all my other relatives. It is my prayer that I will see many of them in heaven. It will be a joyous reunion indeed if my wife and kids are there, and even more so if other relatives are there too. I trust in You, Lord. Be with me all my days. I love You and give You praise. Amen.
