The Ten Commandments: #7

The seventh commandment is one law that is often disregarded. It reads, “thou shalt not commit adultery.(Exodus 20:14) What does adultery mean? Most people would say and be right with the following statement. It could mean sexual acts between a married people that are not their own spouses, and a married person who has sexual relations with someone who is single. However, did you know that adultery could also mean divorcing your spouse if not because of fornication, a spouse dies, or because of abandonment? The Bible teaches this and you can read more about those three reasons for divorce in THIS MESSAGE. But now lets read what Jesus said about adultery. “And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.” (Mark 10:11,12) Therefore, divorcing our spouse is sinful unless there are reasons for it according to the Bible. Therefore, many times divorce is also adultery in God’s eyes. The Lord’s wrath is upon people who commit adultery and do not repent. That is why these sexual immoral people will not go to heaven, but hell, lest they become clean through the blood of Christ.

Speaking of adultery, Jesus also said, “ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27,28) Therefore, if a person looks at the same or opposite sex with lust, this is adultery. Same goes with people who look at porn and lust after these men or women. This is so evil in God’s sight and needs to be dealt with right away through confessions and getting right with God. It is written, “know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11) Like I said earlier, committing adultery can be repented of while in this life. People don’t have to go to hell for committing this crime of adultery, but can instead be washed and be made clean through the blood that Jesus spilt for us on the cross. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that every person in the faith would remember Your ten commandments and also obey them. They were given to us for a reason, and I know that they are very valuable to those who truly love You. I know that for many years I betrayed You and broke Your laws like they were nothing. I didn’t care one bit in those early years and I am so sorry. One commandment that I struggles with was adultery when it came to lust. You know who I once was and how these sins almost destroyed my marriage. Thank You for never giving up on me, though You could have so easily when I was so deep into these sins. Lord, I know that porn is one of the biggest causes for people to commit adultery in the time we are living in, and I ask that You help people know how vial and wrong these acts are. Truly, the times spent looking at men or women in this derogatory way is like saying You don’t matter. It is playing with fire and You have taught me that if we die in this sinful state we will most certainly wake up in hell. Therefore, I give You thanks for straitening me up and for changing me from within. Thank You for forgiving me and for breathing into my soul the Holy Spirit of promise. I love You, Lord. You are my God and I worship You. Have Your way in my life. Amen.
