Keep The Sabbath Day Holy

One of the most important commandments is keeping the Sabbath day holy. As we know from our studies from the book of Exodus, keeping the Sabbath day was taught by God before the ten commandments, in the ten commandments, and also being the last information Moses received before leaving Mount Sinai. No other commandment was spoken of more except for not having any other gods. So to help you understand the importance of the Sabbath day, which the Jews have recorded as Saturday, we shall read in Exodus, chapter 31. It is written, “and the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. ” (Exodus 31:12-14) As God’s adopted people, we also obey the Sabbath just like the Jews. Hebrews, chapter 4, teaches this.

So what does it mean to obey the Sabbath Day as God directs? The Lord God said, “six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” (Exodus 31:15-18) In that time, people were even put to death if they didn’t obey the Sabbath. This is not the case now, although it remains important to the saints of God in the new covenant. So let us do as God says and not disobey Him any longer. Work six days, but rest on Saturday, which is the Sabbath day according to the Jewish calendar. This is important to know and act upon. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will remember to keep the Sabbath day holy. I have not been the best at keeping it week by week, but I pray that what is written in the Bible on this important topic will remain with me throughout each week. This way, when Saturday comes around, I will more likely observe the Sabbath day and not work as the Jewish people do. I am so happy to not have to work on the weekends. This way I can rest on Your holy day. May Your will be done in my life starting this day forward. I am sorry for disobeying You and going to places where I keep people working on the Sabbath day. Surely, it is good to be a witness for You on this day, to go to a church service or Bible study, pray by myself and with others, to sing songs of praise to Your Name, as well as listen and obey You. This is the day that I hope to seek Your hand the most and not do my own will. Speak through me and into other people’s lives. Do a work through me, so that other people will be impacted for Your good. I believe in You, Lord. The Sabbath day is holy, so help me keep it that way each week. I love You. I trust in You, God. Amen.
