Praying That Names Are Not Blotted Out

While Moses was on Mount Sinai he was receiving God’s commandments and laws for the Israelite people. In this time, the people below got bored and made for themselves a golden calf, of which they worshipped. This one sin of worshipping other gods almost had God wipe them all out until Moses pleaded for their lives, of which God spared them. However, this was not enough for God to forgive them. Therefore, Moses pleaded on behalf of the people to God for forgiveness. He knew that what they did could cause their names to be blotted out of the book of life, and he wanted to intervene before that happened. It is written, “and Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.” (Exodus 32:31,32) The truth is, people knew back then that even though we are part of God’s fold, their names could be removed from the book of life because of their willful sins. This is called losing our salvation.

God did answer Moses’s prayer and said, “and the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them. And the Lord plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.” (Exodus 32:33-35)  So we learn that those who sin willfully against God also have their names blotted out of the book of life, although they were once saved. Just like the people of Israel that had their names erased from God’s book of life, the same thing can happen to those who were once born and again saved. However, this does not mean that God will not add our names back the day that we repent and get right with Jesus. Through the blood of Jesus, we are washed and are made clean. His mercy endures forever, which means salvation to those who didn’t always deserve it. Please don’t miss your chance to get right with the Lord while you still have time. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that fewer people will have their names blotted out of Your book of life. It is hard to fathom that billions of people over the centuries have already had their names removed and are now suffering in hellfire because of what they have done. I don’t wish this type of torment on anyone, especially people I know and love. But the more I read and understand what Your word says in the Bible, the more I know that hell is real. It was prepared for the fallen angels, but once people started sinning against You in the same or worse fashion, they also were also justly sent there. Truly, there are many tears shed in this place. So many people wish they could go back in time and change the outcome of their lives. All the people who had opportunity after opportunity to do Your will and did not will suffer because of their bad choices. Lord, help me to never fall victim to the enemy as I had in the past. Take every ounce of sin from my life now and cast it off from me. Forgive me and make in me a clean heart. Cleanse me through the blood that You shed, Jesus. I love You, Lord. Amen.
