God’s Directives During A Plague

In the time we are living in right now with COVID, there is a chapter that we can learn from in the book of Leviticus. That is chapter 15. In this message, we will only cover verses 1 through 7, but this entire chapter is still good to read. In verses 1 through 3 we learn that when we are infected because of a plague our whole body is unclean. This sickness should not be taken lightly, for wherever we go and touch that same illness can then infect every which person on our path. So we got to be careful to not spread COVID with others when we know or suspect that we are positive. Quarantining is good until the virus is out of our system. It is written, “And the Lord spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying, speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean. And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness.” (Leviticus 15:1-3)

During any plague, especially COVID, the infected person’s bed, chairs, and couches are unclean. This includes the person who touches those things. So the person affected should bathe themselves as soon as possible. If a person is in contact with the person’s hands and such, they need to not only wash their hands but their body, along with their clothes. It is written, “every bed, whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing, whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean. And whosoever toucheth his bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And he that sitteth on any thing whereon he sat that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And he that toucheth the flesh of him that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.” (Leviticus 15:4-7) This is very important to remember, in order to stay clean and healthy during times like this. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will help protect us from the infectious disease of COVID. This disease has taken millions of deaths worldwide and I pray that my family will not be a statistic. If it is Your will, then You will keep us safe from the sickness at large. I know that we have had it once or twice before now, and to have it again would be terrible and really take a toll on our bodies. Therefore, I pray that You will help us remember to bathe if we feel like we are around someone that has COVID. Help us to remember to wash our clothes as soon as possible and to isolate ourselves from other people if needed. Lord, this disease is like nothing I have ever seen. Other the centuries, we’ve had worse plagues, but now I can kind of understand what people had to go through who lived through those times. Now, to dwell upon the COVID cases and deaths is unhealthy. Therefore, I don’t think about it much. Instead, I put my thoughts upon You as I read the Bible, pray, and do Your will. I trust in You, God. I love You, Lord. Amen.
