The 2nd, 4th, and 5th Commandments

Every one of the ten commandments is important in the times we are living in. For this reason, I will be writing on a set of them each day until I am finished with Leviticus, chapter 19. The first four verses go over the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Commandments. The 2nd law is, “thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.” (Exodus 20:4,5) The 4th law is, “remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” (Exodus 20:8) Lastly, the 5th law is, “honour thy father and thy mother.” (Exodus 20:12) As Christians, we are not to make graven images or pictures of things of heaven or on earth to bow down to. This goes against bowing down to Mary, saints, angels, and more. This is idolatry and needs to stop. Keeping the Sabbath day holy on the seventh day is very important. This is the day we rest from all our labors and do the Lord’s will. It is important to respect both our mother and our father. That means not playing favorites.

It was after the ten commandments were given to Moses in Exodus, chapter 20, that God continued to make mention of these commandments to the people of Israel. They needed to be reminded about how important it was to be holy in the sight of God and this meant keeping His statutes and laws in their hearts at all times. This way when we are tempted to do something that is sinful, we will run away from the temptation, for disobeying God would mean dishonoring Him and His commandments. Speaking of these three commandments, it is written, “and the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy. Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the Lord your God. Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19:1-4) Please let God’s commandments ring true to your minds and your hearts. Learn to be holy as God is holy. Having faith is one thing, but living out your faith in God is another. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, help us to remember You and Your laws for mankind. You have given us these commandments for a reason, and to obey them is the least we can do. I love You, Lord. and to say this means I will keep Your commandments holy. You have helped me understand the gravity of breaking Your commandments, and therefore, I do all I can to remember You and Your laws daily. Truly, You have written Your statutes upon my heart. This way when people try to tempt me to go to the left or right, I can keep going straight on the path of righteousness. Your Spirit is what guides me and I am grateful to be born again. Many people think that keeping Your commandments is a work that is not necessary for our time. They believe in the two greatest commandments, but the ten are no longer important to them. I don’t understand how people can think this. To love You and my neighbor as myself hangs all the ten commandments. Therefore, we must remember them all. You have helped me do this and millions of others also. I love Your ways, God. You are holy so help me be holy also. Amen.
