Jesus Paid For Our Sins On The Cross

On this Good Friday, let us remember our Lord God and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the promised Messiah who came into the world in order to save us from our sins. Voluntarily did Jesus come as a Lamb to the slaughter, in order to pay the debt that we could not. He knew that we would fall short and do things we shouldn’t, so there needed to be a spotless lamb that could pay the penalty for the sins of the world once and for all. Only Jesus is that Lamb of God who could do this for us. He didn’t fight off the guards who put a cross on Him and walked him up a steep hill to Golgotha. He knew what would happen next, but because of His love for mankind, He went forth so humbly knowing our debt would be paid soon. It is written, “then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.” (John 19:16-18)

Nails pierced Jesus’s wrists as he was raised up on a cross. There He suffered alone. Even the Father could not bear Him up during this time that He took upon Himself our sins. Six hours was Jesus up there and all for our sake. His love has no end. It is written, “after this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:28-30) What Jesus did is finished “and you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.” (Colossians 2:13,14) Now, all you need to do is accept Jesus’s sacrifice, confess your sins, and follow Him. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I am so grateful for the cross. Thank You, Jesus, for paying the penalty I could not pay on my own. God, I have done some really bad things that I regret, but now I know that there is hope because of what You have done for us. I don’t have to wallow in my sinful state, for You have come and rescued me. I was once in darkness, but You have raised me up into newness of life. There is no license to sin anymore, for the Holy Spirit abound in me and wills me to Your will as it is in heaven. My only desire now is to fulfill Your mission through me while I have breath. The message of the cross needs to be made known to every person in this world. I am only one person and I know that You have called millions of others also to be Your witnesses. Wake them up. May each one of them respond to their calling. Lord, lead me from temptation. Help me to walk in Your light and be an example of the faith to my family. I want my wife and my two daughters to also know You, Jesus, and be saved. I long for that to happen. I love You, Lord. Thank You for the cross. Amen.

  1. Amen! Hallelujah for the cross! The cross is God’s bridge to pass over hell and the cross is the place of the atonement. The preaching of the cross is the power of God unto salvation.
