People Called To Serve In The Tabernacle

Imagine if you were part of the lineage of Levi and were then told that you would serve the Lord in His tabernacle the next twenty years of your life. This is what happened to the sons of Kohath, which were among the sons of Levi. If they had reached the age of thirty years old, then they would be called to serve in the tabernacle until they reached the age of fifty. This was not optional, but a calling from God that He expected these men to do. And so it was that the majority of these people served the Lord valiantly in keeping God’s sanctuary holy. It is written, “and the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the house of their fathers, from thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.” (Numbers 4:1-3) If you were around this time, this would be a calling that you would not want to turn down, especially if you believed in God.

God continued and told these men what they would be doing in His tabernacle. The whole chapter of Numbers, chapter 4, talks about this in detail. Here is just a snippet of what He said, “this shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation, about the most holy things: And when the camp setteth forward, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering vail, and cover the ark of testimony with it: And shall put thereon the covering of badgers’ skins, and shall spread over it a cloth wholly of blue, and shall put in the staves thereof.” (Numbers 4:4-6) I can just imagine how people must have felt the moment they received this calling from God. The delight and excitement in people’s hearts must have been radiating within. Now, God has not forgotten about us in the new covenant. We may not have tabernacles/temples now, but He still has gifts of the Spirit for each one of us that truly believes in and follows Jesus. You would know this if you are abiding in Christ daily. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will find out their callings from You and not back down when called. Too many people see what You have called them to as too hard and not what their flesh desires, so they back down. Surely, the Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Only those who abide in You daily have the ability to continue in their callings to the fullest extent. I love to abide in You, Jesus. You are my King and I worship You, God. Have Your way in my life. If there is anyone that I should be witnessing to, help me find them. If there is anyone I should be helping, put them on my path. Help me to love one another as You love me. Help me to forgive one another as You forgive me. You are so patient with me, and I pray that I will be as patient with other people in the same way. Lord, if there is anything I am not doing for Your kingdom that I should be, then bring it to my attention immediately. I don’t wish to grieve the Holy Spirit in how I live my life apart from You. I love You more than anything else. Lead me, Lord. Amen.
