Grow The Love In Your Marriage

Today the Lord opened my eyes to what I was needing to ripen my marriage. Just like fruit needs nourishment to grow to its full potential, we need the same as husband and wife. He spoke to my heart and said, “your spouse only has you to show her true love each day, every day. There is no other person on earth that has a greater chance to lift her up like you can.” I thought about this for a while and realized how I haven’t shown her the same love she got from her parents. They aren’t here in this house and she doesn’t have the opportunities to reach out to them like she could before. Though I should’ve done what I needed to give her that same love and even more, I haven’t a lot of the times. As a spouse, our love for each other should grow deeper each day. In this way we can be the person the other person needs to be truly happy. I know that if I trust in God He will give me words to say to my wife. Things that will lift her up. There is so much I know I haven’t explored yet that could make her happy.

What God has joined in this marriage is a perfect union. Though I don’t always make it this way, this is what He desires. I know it is through the Holy Spirit that our hearts will be together as one. For God can do a miracle in each of our marriages if we let Him in. I will trust in God to help me go the extra mile to make sure my wife’s needs are met. I will love my wife “even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it”. This is a great example of true love. I will also give myself over to my wife just as I love the Lord. I will make her feel like she is the most important person on earth, for she is. She needs to know this and feel this daily. I will say kind things that will make her smile. I will surprise her with things that only I know she loves. For she deserves to be truly happy. I know the more I pray, I will find ways to strengthen the marriage. For the Lord will change how I look at my wife. No matter what my spouse does, I will love her. I will strive to love her more than ever before.

Ephesians 5:22-25 (KJV)
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
